ASYMMETRIC COMPOSITE REVERSE-OSMOSIS MEMBRANES

In 1978, Polimersintez launched the production of cellulose acetate RO membranes. In the years that followed, a number of modifications based on these membranes were developed, particularly, supported membranes. In 1987, works on designing composite membranes using Phenilon C-4 and polysulfonamide ultrafilters as supports were started; selective skin layer was prepared by interfacial condensation. Effects of various technological parameters on performance characteristics of the membranes and the kinetics of skin layer formation were studied. Composite RO membranes performing at high and medium pressures were developed. Nanofilter membranes based on a synthetic polymer and modified cellulose acetate were prepared. Areas of their most prospective application were identified.
