CHANGES IN THE PROPAGATION OF ULTRASONIC-WAVES IN SILICA AEROGELS

摘要
High frequency ultrasonic waves are propagated in low density silica aerogels. Velocity and attenuation measurements are performed by using acousto‐optic interaction in Bragg regime. In the frequency range investigated, velocity measurements are in good agreement with those obtained by other techniques, static measurements and Brillouin scattering. The mean value for the attenuation coefficient α is proportional to the frequency v. This behavior evidences a change in the propagation of elastic waves between the ultrasonic regime and the Rayleigh scattering regime where α is proportional to v4.
