The following problem, which is cited in [1. p. 118], often arises in automatic control theory. Suppose that the constant part of an automatic control system is given and that there are several free parameters determining the operation of the controlling units. It is required to choose these parameters in such a way that the fixed mode of operation (steady-state motion) will be stable.
